GERMAN KABIRSKI

The brand was founded in 2000 by a contemporary jewelry designer German Kabirski. It quickly attracted attention, mainly from people who don't like traditional jewelry and art critics. From the beginning, German Kabirski was all about being different. Our designer experimented with unconventional materials, invented new jewelry techniques, and ignored the thousands-year jewelry tradition to create his own authentic style. He combined diamonds with pebbles, precious metals with fur and feathers, and set stones in a way nobody thought possible.

German Kabirski Inc. is a member of the leading US jewelry association, Jewelers of America.

JUST DIFFERENT

Real artists shouldn't repeat - nor others, neither themselves - says German Kabirski. His work is a constant search for something new - new textures, new materials, and new ways to design. He keeps experimenting and inventing every day, and the joy of the process seems to keep him going.

THEY LIVE

Full disclosure: actually, some of our pieces are not jewelry. They are living creatures belonging to a scarce extraterrestrial family. They originated at the center of the Earth, where gemstones and metals melt together to form these odd little species we find so fascinating. Spat out on the planet's surface through volcanoes and earthquakes, they longed for high temperatures and intensity of the underworld until they encountered it all in a simple human touch. Since then, they have disguised themselves as designer accessories to befriend people and to become their companions, therapist, and alter egos.

Why do you work so much with raw stones?
Polished stones have no energy. Such stones go through a lot of artificial enrichment processes – heating, chemical processing, irradiation, etc. All of it is done to create shiny commercial product. In my opinion, it’s absolute stupidity, which kills the most precious aspect of the stone – it’s soul. I work with wild, virgin stones because I love their energy and the uniqueness in each piece. Their shapes were formed in the earth over millions of years. They are deeply rich and alive to me. I feel that their individuality, their flaws and textures are much more adorable than glamorous look of polished stones. I also prefer such women-accepting and emphasizing their natural beauty, instead of trying to be alike and the same, such as following cultural beauty and fashion standards.
How do you work?
I work very chaotically and intuitively. Kandinsky and Pollock inspire me with their approach. I never plan collections, as most jewelry companies do. My subconscious is expressed in my art. I trust my intuition much more than thinking logically. It works especially well with raw stones as I am inspired to invent by variety of their shapes, colors and forms. I have an impulse, an urge to create new jewelry every single day, and am a very prolific artist. Ho nesty in self-expression is very important to me, especially if it means going against demands and market trends.
How would you define your style?
People normally think of my jewelry as “Kabirski” style, due to not being able to categorize my work. I am inspired by nature, and weird, conflicting elements in nature that we frequently try to avoid. I love to find beauty in ugliness, surreal in the ordinary, dreams within the reality. I do not separate them from each other.
I mix organic forms and straight conflicting lines, using different textures for coating silver to resemble the textures I see in the ore, in the wild stones’ natural habitat. I want my art to remind people of their innately beautiful and conflicted nature. I want to create a sense of connection to everything, seeing awe and miracle in inanimate objects. I love to create dramatic, theatrical statement pieces to remind us of our boldness and our courage to be different.
Why do you have the cockroach as your brand symbol?

I’d had a very difficult time, being on the border between life and death due to serious illness and the need to transplant an organ. I planned my own funeral. I felt very isolated during the darkest days of that period in my life, but continued to work. There was a cockroach that desired never to leave my working table and he gave me company. Strangely, he inspired the hope in me that I would live and prosper. Cockroaches are the most indestructible creatures on Earth. Ever since then, I have deemed the cockroach and his qualities my true talisman
