Leo Power Stones: Peridot, Ruby, and Citrine
Peridot is Leo's birthstone — a sharp, solar green gemstone built for the sign that runs on creative fire and stubborn conviction. This Leo crystal collection pairs it with two powerful sidekicks: ruby, the stone of courage and loyalty, and citrine, the gemstone of abundance and creative flow. Three Leo zodiac stones, three distinct energies, one collection designed for Leo season.
Peridot belongs to the mineral family olivine, a magnesium iron silicate formed deep in the earth's mantle and carried to the surface through volcanic activity. It sits at 6.5–7 on the Mohs hardness scale, with a distinctive yellowish-green color driven entirely by its iron content — the more iron, the deeper the green. Historically it was mined by ancient Egyptians on the volcanic island of Zabargad, and was considered a stone of the sun, protection against darkness, and a direct channel to nature's creative force. For Leo — a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun, born July 23 to August 22 — peridot does the interior work the sign often skips: it clears self-doubt, sharpens instincts, and keeps creative output moving rather than stalling in self-consciousness.
Ruby is a corundum mineral, second only to diamond in hardness at 9 on the Mohs scale, and one of the most historically loaded stones in gemology. Its red comes from chromium, and the finest specimens carry a deep blood-red sometimes called "pigeon blood" — prized across ancient Burma, India, and medieval Europe as a stone of kings and warriors. Astrologically it is tied to Leo as a symbol of vitality, passion, and the courage to act on what you believe. For Leo, ruby backs what is already there — the drive, the loyalty, the instinct to lead — and keeps it grounded when the sign's natural intensity tips toward burnout or stubbornness.
Citrine is a variety of quartz, ranging from pale yellow to deep amber, colored by iron oxide traces within the crystal structure. It forms naturally when amethyst or smoky quartz is exposed to heat, either underground or intentionally, which makes it one of the most energetically solar stones in the quartz family. For Leo it works on the creative and material plane simultaneously: it stimulates the intellect, activates self-expression, builds optimism that is earned rather than performed, and draws in abundance by keeping motivation clear and moving. It is the stone that makes sure Leo's creative fire produces something real, not just dramatic.
Together, peridot, ruby, and citrine form a set that covers the full Leo range — instinct, courage, and output. Peridot handles clarity and creative momentum, ruby provides the backbone and heat, citrine keeps the mind sharp and the vision expansive. Three stones, three functions, one direction: forward.
