Zellige Singular Edition Natural Chrysoberyl Mosaic Silver Pendant

Zellige takes its name from the hand-cut tilework of Moroccan courtyards, where thousands of small glazed pieces are fitted together into patterns that seem to go on forever, and this pendant works on exactly that principle with one substitution: the tiles are natural chrysoberyl. German Kabirski left the crystals uncut and untreated, in the honey-to-olive greens they came out of the ground in, wrapped each one in sterling silver and fitted them together into a full disc using his stained glass technique. The whole piece is plated in gold, so the seams between the stones glow like the grout of a sunlit floor, and the round form makes it read as a small medallion of mosaic you happen to carry on a chain rather than walk across. Gallery-grade contemporary art, pocket-sized.
