Hyalos Singular Edition Natural Raw Ruby Mosaic Silver Pendant

Hyalos is Greek for glass, which is fitting, since this pendant is the purest example of what German Kabirski means by his stained glass technique. Natural raw rubies, uncut and untreated and still the shape they were mined in, are each wrapped in sterling silver and joined to one another until they form a single mosaic — no mount, no backing, just stone holding stone. The silver is plated in black rhodium, so the seams between the rubies read as dark lead lines, and the bail alone is plated in gold, a small warm hinge on a piece that otherwise runs deep red on black. Contemporary art you can wear, with the kind of presence that usually sits behind museum glass.

Hyalos comes with the temperament of its rubies, which have never been heated, tidied or asked to calm down.
